Turkey has been participating since 2001 in the effort to create a European Higher Education Area that began with the Bologna Declaration in 1999 and is briefly called the Bologna Process. This process aims at a modernization of the European higher education systems as well as at reforms primarily in the areas of grading structures in higher education, programs of instruction, quality improvement in education, student and staff mobility, rules for access to higher education, employment of graduates, and financing.

Ten years have passed since these efforts for reform. In this decade 47 European countries participated in this process, and serious progress was able to be accomplished in numerous dimensions. The result of these efforts in Turkey so far has been that 31 universities were able to obtain the ECTS label, and 73 universities the diploma supplement label. During which time these practices have been spreading to almost all universities. The efforts at Hacettepe University were initiated in 2003, and since the beginning of the academic year of 2013-2014 these efforts have been continuing by applying ECTS and issuing diploma supplements. After all these developments we believe that it would contribute to the invigoration of the “educational” dimension of the Turkish education system if we organized an evaluation meeting on the Bologna process in order to share related knowledge and experiences. Therefore, we would like to kindly invite all our academic staff to the First Congress of Research on the Bologna Process, which is to be held on 17th-18th September, 2015.
